Film Premiere: History of Attorneys of Color

Hartford, Conn. — On Thursday, April 2nd, Connecticut Bar Foundation, through its James W. Cooper Fellows Program and History of Attorneys of Color Committee (HOAOC), will present a film highlighting the voices of a diverse group of trailblazing attorneys.

“I am so excited, honored and humbled to be part of this project,” said Attorney Marilyn Diaz, one of the interviewees in the film. “The History of Attorneys of Color is an important project that has been years in the making. It started with a timeline and here we are showing a film!”

The Fellows established the HOAOC Committee in 2012, to highlight, preserve, and celebrate the rich history of attorneys of color in Connecticut. The projects they’ve developed include hosting symposiums and building historical timelines, documenting important milestones, and inspiring future generations.

For this project, the Committee conducted four in-depth interviews with attorneys representing the Black, Hispanic, Asian Pacific, and South Asian communities and compiled them into a single feature presentation. The result is a film that preserves and celebrates their personal stories, insights, and contributions to the profession while honoring their impact on the legal community.

Diaz said, “Live, learn, and pass it on — that has always guided my path. As a Latina and the first attorney in my family, I strive to carry my community’s legacy forward so the next generation continues to grow and succeed.”

The film features:

  • Hon. M. Nawaz Wahla, Dean & Principal, NUST Law School
  • Attorney Marilyn Diaz, CT Hispanic Bar Association Past President
  • Attorney Amy Lin Meyerson, Law Office of Amy Lin Meyerson
  • John Rose Jr., George W. Crawford Black Bar Association Founding Member

A light reception with a cash bar will take place prior to the screening, and a Q&A discussion will follow the video.

This event is free and open to the public.

Location: Quinnipiac University School of Law, Brooke A. Goff Courtroom, 370 Bassett Road, North Haven, CT 06473.
