Other ways to support Connecticut Bar Foundation:
Financial contributions to Connecticut Bar Foundation's (CBF) general funds support the mission to fund a fair justice system and ensure that all Connecticut citizens, regardless of power or resources, can get the legal help they need. You do not need to be a member of the Connecticut Bar Association or a member of the Cooper Fellows to support CBF's mission. CBF welcomes personal contributions and donations from organizations.
Fellows Programs
The James W. Cooper Fellows serve the goal of CBF by sponsoring programs and projects that address matters concerning the legal profession, the administration of justice, and the role of law in society. The Fellows also serve this mission through projects that educate the public about the role of the rule of law. Review current Fellows Programs.
Dedicated and Honorary Funds
CBF and the James W. Cooper Fellows have created the following funds to honor colleagues who have made significant contributions to the practice of law in Connecticut and to direct resources to meet specific unmet needs of the state's most vulnerable citizens.
Connecticut Innocence Fund
This fund assists exonerees who have been recently released from prison based on proof of actual innocence of the crimes for which they were imprisoned. It provides monetary advances to assist newly-released exonerees with immediate financial needs prior to awards of compensation from the State of Connecticut.
Anthony M. Fitzgerald Award for Excellence Fund
The partners of Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP established this fund to honor Tony Fitzgerald on the occasion of his retirement. CBF draws on the fund annually to present the Fitzgerald Award for Excellence, which recognizes the dedicated service and outstanding achievements of a Connecticut nonprofit civil legal service provider or legal aid attorney(s).
The David A. Pels Homelessness Prevention Fund
The Pels Fund, established in 2019, benefits low-income tenants facing the threat of homelessness in Connecticut. The Fund was founded by attorneys at Greater Hartford Legal Aid, Inc. to honor the exemplary career and contributions of Attorney David A. Pels, one of the pioneers of landlord-tenant law in Connecticut.
Honorable Warren Eginton Memorial Fund
The law school scholarship program established in his name honors Judge Warren Eginton's legacy of mentoring others in the legal profession.
