Access to Justice Programs

This program explores issues related to legal aid in Connecticut, examining both its history and current issues impacting legal services, and offers a vision for the future. CBF has recorded interviews of CT legal aid pioneers to capture the history and important milestones of the movement in CT, and hosted symposiums and speaker series.

What is civil access to justice? How do we define and measure the civil access to justice gap in Connecticut? Where do we need to focus our attention?

  • This program explores issues related to legal aid in Connecticut, examining both its history and current issues impacting legal services, and offers a vision for the future.

  • Fellows created an oral history of the legal aid movement in Connecticut by interviewing 15 of the state's legal aid “pioneers” to capture its history and important milestones.

  • In 2014 and 2025, CBF presented symposiums that addressed the need to improve access to justice for those who are unable to afford legal representation in areas of critical civil legal needs.
