Bryan Klimkiewicz is currently serving in his 5th year as Special Education Director for the Connecticut State Department of Education.  He leads a dynamic team that is responsible for ensuring that students with disabilities receive a free appropriate education that prepares students for post-secondary education, employment, independent living, and community participation. Prior to his role at the CSDE, he served in a variety of professional roles at the local level including Paraprofessional, Residential Coordinator, Special Education Teacher (private and public school settings), Director of Special Education, Pupil Services Director, and Assistant Superintendent.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut.  His graduate work resulted in a master’s degree in Special Education with a focus on intensive special needs, a 6th year degree in Educational Leadership and Connecticut certification in Special Education, Administration and Superintendent of Schools.  Bryan is currently working on a Ph.D in special education and continues to be inspired by the students he serves on a daily basis.
