Hon. Barbara N. Bellis
The Honorable Barbara Bellis is a 1983 graduate of Boston College with a B.A. in Economics and Classics, and a 1986 graduate of the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. She was appointed to the Superior Court in 2003. She is currently the Chief Administrative Judge for Civil Matters. Judge Bellis is presently assigned to the Ansonia/Milford Judicial District, where she serves as the presiding judge for Civil matters, and the Disciplinary Matters Docket in Waterbury. From 2009 to present, she has presided over the Bridgeport Asbestos Docket. Previous assignments include the Complex Litigation Docket in Waterbury.
Judge Bellis has served on various committees including the Superior Court Rules Committee, the Judges Advisory Committee on Electronic Filing, the Judicial Review Council, the Superior Court Executive Committee, the Public Service and Trust Commission’s Courthouse Security Committee, Civil Commission, and the Public Service and Trust Commission’s Jury Committee, as well as various task forces. She is the 2012 recipient of the Judicial Award from the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, the 2019 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association, and the 2024 recipient of the Distinguished Judicial Service Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates.
