Hon. Ken Schluger (Ret.)

Hon. Ken Schluger (Ret.)

After more than twenty years in the Connecticut Superior Court, Judge Ken Shluger retired from the bench and joined Freed Marcroft in their family law practice in 2025.

The firm eagerly welcomed him, considering his history and stellar reputation in family court, where his colleagues speak of Judge Shluger highly. As the administrative judge for the New London Judicial District, the Honorable Judge John Newson explained to the New London Day, Judge Shluger is “resourceful and has a lot of a knowledge. He’s been invaluable.”

To Judge Shluger, leaving the bench behind didn’t mean walking away from his dedication to family law. It meant approaching it from a new perspective, but with the same goals: helping families pass through the process of divorce in a civil and healthy way, equipped and prepared to start the next chapter of their lives.

With over forty years of experience in the courtroom, first as a trial lawyer, and then as a Judge specializing in family law, Judge Shluger brings valuable counsel and insight into helping families resolve challenging matrimonial issues.

Aside from the law, teaching is Judge Shluger‘s other passion. He has been an adjunct college professor, a high school civics educator, a coach of a high school state championship mock trial team, a sailing instructor and a spinning instructor.

He serves on the board of the Hartford County Bar Association, the Hartford Marathon Foundation and the Niantic Bay Sailing Academy and is a member the Connecticut Bar Association family law section, and the Hartford County Bar Family Law Committee. He frequently speaks about divorce and the law to Civic groups, bar associations and schools.

The process of divorce can be tough on you, your spouse, your children, your finances, even your pets – but it doesn’t have to be. Judge Shluger has helped thousands of people through their divorce.
